How much could add up for you?
Three questions. You see the answer straight away.
More settingsFor everyone who wants more detail.
For example, once you earn more after your training.
At this age you stop saving. From then on, the money is paid out to you. The law usually allows this from age 65.
Money you have already saved for old age and invest from the start.
How much your money grows on average per year, before costs. Pick what suits you: if you have plenty of time and stay calm when things go up and down, you can expect a bit more. If you prefer it steady, a bit less. We calculate with 6%.
This is what the provider takes from your money every year. 1% means: €10 a year for every €1,000.
You pay in a little more every year – for example because your salary goes up.
Most things get more expensive over time. We use this value to work out what your money will be worth later. The European Central Bank (ECB) aims for inflation of 2% a year – that is why we calculate with 2%.
2 % is the official target of the European Central Bank.
Not included: taxes and one-off costs when signing up. The payout in old age is only a rough estimate. How exactly we calculate

Is this for me?
Wherever you are right now
Pick what fits you best.
You are an apprentice
You can join from €10 a month. Under 25 you get a one-off €200 extra.
Learn moreYou are an employee
For the first €360 a year, the state adds half on top.
Learn moreYou have children
For each child there is up to €300 a year on top.
Learn moreYou are self-employed
New from 2027: now you can get the top-up too.
Learn moreYou can only save a little
That is exactly when it pays off: for small amounts the top-up per euro is biggest.
Learn moreYou already have a Riester contract
Your contract carries on. You can switch, but you do not have to.
Learn more
The top-up goes to those who are eligible. That is most people who work. School pupils without a job and pensioners usually are not.
How it works
Four steps. That's all.
You save
You put a little money aside every month. For example €30.
The state adds to it
For every euro you save, you get a top-up. There is extra money for children.
Your money works
Your money is invested in a great many companies at once. That way it can grow over many years. Along the way it will sometimes go up and down – that is completely normal. If you save for a long time, you have plenty of time to sit out such phases calmly.
You get it when you are old
From age 65, the money is paid out to you. Bit by bit, every month.

Little dictionaryHard words, simply explained
- Pension (Rente)
- Money you get every month when you are old and no longer work.
- Retirement saving (Altersvorsorge)
- Putting money aside today so that you have enough later.
- Allowance (Zulage)
- Money the state adds when you save yourself.
- Investment account (Depot)
- A kind of account. It holds no cash, but shares in companies.
- Funds and ETFs
- A big basket with shares of very many companies. If one company does badly, there are still many others.
- Costs
- The money the provider takes for its work. The less it takes, the more is left for you.
- Guarantee
- A promise: in the end there is at least as much as was paid in. That is safe, but usually brings less profit.
- Riester
- The name of the old savings scheme. If you already have a contract, you can keep it.
- Inflation
- Things get more expensive over time. Later, €100 buys you less than today.

Questions
Good to know
Is this a website from the state?
No. We are a private website, not a public authority. What we say about the law, we back up with official sources. You can find them under Sources and methods.
Does this cost anything?
No. The calculator and all texts are free.
Do I have to give my name or email?
No. The calculator runs only on your device. We do not receive your entries. You only need contact details if you want to send us a question yourself.
Do the new rules already apply?
Not yet. The law has been passed. The new rules apply from 1 January 2027. More under New from 2027.
Can I start before I am 18?
Yes, if you are eligible. The law sets no minimum age. What counts is whether you pay into the state pension scheme, for example as an apprentice. Your parents must agree to the contract. School pupils without a job are usually not eligible.
Is the result of the calculator certain?
Part of it. What you pay in and what the state adds by law is fixed. How strongly the money grows is something nobody knows. That is why the calculator only shows examples. Money that is invested can also shrink.
Will I get personal advice here?
No. We explain in general. If you want personal advice, you can send a question. Before sending, you see who receives it.
Who gets my data?
Only the recipient you choose in the form yourself. Right now there are no partners. So everything stays with us. More under Partners.
