Quick answer
What is an Altersvorsorgedepot?
The new way to save for old age from 2027.
It is a kind of account for your old age. It holds no cash, but shares in many companies. That lets the money grow more strongly – but it can also shrink.
If you want it simple, you take the standard account: two ready-made baskets and at most 1% costs a year. If you want it safe, you choose an offer with a guarantee.
- Starts on 1 January 2027
- The state adds money
- Payout usually from age 65
- Without a guarantee you can lose money

How much your money grows on average per year, before costs. Pick what suits you: if you have plenty of time and stay calm when things go up and down, you can expect a bit more. If you prefer it steady, a bit less. We calculate with 6%.
This is what the provider takes from your money every year. 1% means: €10 a year for every €1,000.
You pay in a little more every year – for example because your salary goes up.
Most things get more expensive over time. We use this value to work out what your money will be worth later. The European Central Bank (ECB) aims for inflation of 2% a year – that is why we calculate with 2%.
2 % is the official target of the European Central Bank.
Not included: taxes and one-off costs when signing up. The payout in old age is only a rough estimate. How exactly we calculate
